Mt. Makihata (1,967m) is one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains.
The base of the mountain is covered in lush green primeval forests, while the area around the summit has a mystical atmosphere with smooth rolling hills and numerous alpine ponds. Alpine plants including dense patches of bamboo grass, rhododendrons, day lilies, and primrose are scattered about in this garden in the clouds.
An unmanned mountain cabin is located at the 9th step.
