Kamo Lake, spanning approximately 17 kilometers (10.5 miles) in circumference, is Niigata Prefecture's largest lake. Originally a freshwater lake, it was connected to the sea during the Meiji period (1868-1912) through excavation efforts to prevent flooding, transforming it into a brackish lake.

The lake's shores are now equipped with well-maintained walking paths and cycling routes, inviting visitors to enjoy the picturesque scenery that has inspired traditional Japanese poetry for centuries. Kamo Lake is also a hub for oyster farming, an industry that has flourished here since 1932.

Recently, there's been exciting new developments around the lake: A lakeside café has opened its doors, and kayaking experiences are becoming quite popular, offering fresh ways to enjoy this scenic spot.
