Mt. Hakkai is a sacred peak that has been climbed by dedicated hikers since long ago. There are 3 main trekking courses, the Osaki Route, the Okura Route, and the Jonai-guchi Route. Along the Jonai-guchi Route is the Byobumichi trail which has many sections lined with chains that make for a thrilling ascent. Starting from the 4th step of the mountain on the Ropeway Route is also a popular hike that takes advantage of the mountain's 81-passenger gondola lift.
The Senbon Hinoki Mountain Cabin is located at the 9th step.
